We are developing new routes and adventures in the wonderful country of Argentina and we needed someone with plenty of experience of the North to help us continue to deliver quality tours at Escaped Travel, within our new mini-site “Tours in Salta“.
Gareth Mather joins us not only in travel sales and consultancy but also as an expert guide and driver for the spectacular landscapes of Salta, with the heavy emphasis on high-altitude wine that this region offers. Gareth is a Englishman who left South-West London to travel and find a new challenge overseas. He settled in Salta in North-West Argentina some 12 years ago and now has a family with his Argentine wife Irma which includes two children. He freely admits to greatly enjoying the quality food and wine that the region has to offer when he not working (and sometimes while working with clients as you can imagine, although no wine of course while driving).
We specialize in custom-made, private journeys, visiting not only the wine regions but also the jaw-dropping canyons, high deserts, mountains and volcanoes that the area boasts. Our expert driver / guides such as Gareth have several comfortable 4 x 4 vehicles to choose from (which are often essential for the off-road parts of trips) so that clients can sit back and enjoy the countryside, stopping whenever they like and maxing out their camera memories and batteries!
A very recent trip saw Gareth take Catherine and Paul Valentine from the USA on a trip to the north of Salta. They visited the Humahuaca Canyon which is not only a stunning part of the country but also historically and culturally important. The area is picture perfect and also boasts pre-Inca, Inca and Spanish colonial history. The photo below shows our clients enjoying the important history of the area, no doubt Gareth also gave them tips on the culinary aspects of being in Argentina where preparing meat is a long-standing tradition.
When considering Argentina as a travel destination don’t just think of Buenos Aires and Patagonia, although they are not to be missed, but find a few days extra and give the Salta region a try, you wont regret it!
