We make it easy to fit 9 or 18 holes into your time sightseeing and wine tasting in Salta and Cafayate. There are several courses either within the city of Salta itself or within an easy drive from the city. The best course in the region is the one found in the wine region of Cafayate and there are others nearby in Jujuy and Tucuman.
Golf in Cafayate – Plus wine of course!!
Some 190 km south of Salta is the wine region centered around Cafayate. If you would like to combine wine tasting and tours with some golf then we can arrange for you to play at La Estancia de Cafayate, even staying on the grounds if you wish. This is a top quality course and the whole property is stunning with its backdrop of the foothills of the Andes mountains.
This challenging, Bob Cupp designed course sits at 1600 meters above sea level meaning your ball flies farther, and especially in the dry, warm air. This 18 hole, par 72 course measures 7600 yards from the back tees, but there are 4 other tee positions on offer. The design takes you through the valley landscapes with a links feel and boasts vineyards on some holes, like playing in Napa!
If you want to keep your ball losses down try to play in the morning, afternoon winds make the course very long and tight. As you can see from the photo above the 12th hole is very lllooonnngggg, and imagine those 734 yards into a strong headwind with very high rough – even with the altitude you might feel like moving to the senior tees even if you are not a senior!!! No caddies at this course but yes on rental of all equipment, and a nice restaurant and bar also.
Golf in Salta – City Area
Due to its proximity to the city center the Salta Polo Club is the course of choice for those on a tight schedule and not able to make it for golf in Cafayate. This 18 hole course is less than 4km from the main square of the city so we can get you there and back easily and quickly. The Argentine Golf Association (AAG) describes the course with a par of 71. It is 6844 yards from the mens tees and 5243 from the ladies ones with 5 par 3s, 9 par 4s y 4 par 5s. It has water hazards on holes 7, 8, 16 and 18, and challenges with narrow Bermuda grass fairways and Bentgrass greens.
There is a well equipped Club House where the golfers can enjoy traditional Salteña food and of course the bar. The course also has a golf school with resident coaches, a pro shop plus equipment rental all of which we help with. Caddies can be contracted at this course.
The Jockey Club is next on our list of options for golf in Salta city itself. The Jockey Club course is a short drive south of the center and is a relatively young course hence does not have a lot of trees. Its feels very linksy, as the terrain is gently rolling and quite dry, baked under the sun. This18 hole course is has some narrow fairways, well protected greens and several internal out-of-bounds making the 6225 yard par 70 quite tricky. No caddies here.
Try a few more rounds?
If you still have time and want a couple more rounds then we can arrange for you to go to other courses within easy reach of Salta. Both Jujuy and Tucuman have golf courses so transport, equipment and hotels can be arranged as required.
